September 24

Good day. September 24th came around again, waking up at the beautiful Wolfskuil. I intended to wrap things up there and then make my way to Winsum, a little north of Groningen, to be closer to where the registration might be arriving sometime in the near future. At least, that was the plan.

On the Road

I stopped in Steenwijk to pick up some more supplies, then rode along all kinds of small country roads in the Netherlands — the kind I hadn’t driven much since 1983. They have this wonderful quality of letting you feel like you’re out in the countryside while still being close to everything.

Arriving in Winsum

I made it to Winsum, a neat little town with plenty of charm. It’s fun to wander around, with places to eat, things to do, and even water activities. You can paddle around at Marin Land, which is also a campsite. That’s where I ended up parking for the night, within walking distance of town so I could pick up a few things I needed. Winsum has a lot of good qualities, and being surrounded by nature is one of the best.

The Registration Card

The next morning, on the 25th, I found out that the registration card should be arriving that afternoon. I drove closer to Groningen, visited my friend Reinout to say farewell until next time, and then headed to Gerdjan’s place so we could wrap up the registration paperwork and I could continue my trip south.

Heading South

As I got closer to Oud-Beijerland, where I needed to be the next morning for a fresh start, I stopped in Nieuwmoer—or something like that—at a campsite in the area. It was a peaceful spot to stay the night and prepare for what comes next.

Looking Ahead

That night marked the final pause before my true day of departure — September 26th, 2025 — when I would finally leave the Netherlands. It’s been quite a journey already. Expectations and reality don’t always match, but if you stay with it, things have a way of working out. Thanks for coming along.
