Wilderness Adventure Day
Good day, March 4th. Well, being in wilderness means you need to do wilderness things. And just so you know, that last night’s restaurant was Salinas Beach Restaurant.
Choosing Our Activity
So today, we could do a lot of things, but the guys opted to just go canoeing. We could also have gone clothing, but clothing is something they had done before. I guess that’s when you wear a wetsuit and you jump off cliffs and parts of water and all that good stuff. But you could also do on an overhead line, but they wanted to do what I wanted to do, which was canoeing.
Canoeing with Eden Company
Now that was an interesting little feat. So the Eden Company does all that stuff. So we made it there after having breakfast in town, which was really good. The kind of canoes they have, you pretty much sit on top, so you don’t sit in the canoe, which is different than what I’m used to because I have two sea kayaks and you have back support on these sitting on top canoes, you do not have back support. It wasn’t going to be a very long ride, I think 40 minutes to get to a place where we would get off the boats. So that was okay, and there was no fast water or anything. So we enjoyed the ride there.
Waterfall Stop and Wildlife
Then we came to a place where you could leave your kayak and take some things along and then walk to a waterfall. And at the waterfall as well, you could swim. I opted to go for a walk, but I walked the other way. There was a little pontoon that came across the water that we were passing through, and people had to pull themselves over on the pontoon, and it only takes 4 people at a time. So that was fun. And then I hung out at the place where the canoes were and encountered some little deer that felt really very much at home with people around.
Meeting Interesting People
After the guys came back, I met some interesting people, of course, that’s what I do. This person was Swiss. And he is into IT, has his own company and about 40 people, and he just works remote, and he’s able to do that by going to South Africa and have his attorney girlfriend join him for a month. So what he does is very interesting. He’s already been doing it for more than 3 years, could it be even 7 years, and he basically is using AI to interpret videos that are being taken in sewer lines. Now, I’m not talking about your house sewer. I’m talking about major sewer lines so that they can detect cracks because of roots or whatever else that needs to be detected. And he’s doing that in more than just Switzerland. He’s doing that in the US and France and other countries.
Return Journey and Dinner
So that was a good fill-in for when Chris and Ron came back and we pedaled back. And that was good because the person that had rented us the pedals, I asked him to get us a back pedal, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to get back. Anyway, slowly driving around and back to our place where we stayed. And then there was a recommendation for Joplin’s Steak Bar. Which was also walking distance but not on the water from where we were staying. And that was really, really good stuff. They focused on steaks. So when you get somebody that makes that stuff really well, then it tastes absolutely fabulous. So now you know where to go when you get to Wilderness. Thanks for coming along.
