December 10th in Accra

Good day. December 10th. Today was the day I could pick up my visa for the Republic of the Congo at around 2 o’clock.

With that in hand, I’d be ready to start the same process for the Democratic Republic of Congo — which, of course, is a different country altogether.

Sorting Out Car Insurance

The day also gave me a chance to focus on my car insurance. It’s third-party insurance only — not coverage for my own car — but it’s required.

I was short by about two weeks, and this insurance is handled through ECOWAS. All the ECOWAS countries, starting in Senegal and extending throughout West Africa, are connected when it comes to insurance and other regional requirements.

The ECOWAS Insurance Puzzle

The challenge was figuring out where to even begin. I needed either an extension from a local insurance office or to get in touch with the providers in Senegal and have them issue an extension.

That turned out to be easier said than done.

I walked into a random insurance agency, and they pointed me toward the ECOWAS office. The address was confusing, and I didn’t manage to make it there that day.

Visa Timing and Office Hours

At least I was able to pick up my Congo visa. The pickup time was 2 o’clock, which wasn’t early enough to also make it to the DRC office, considering the travel time.

Those offices tend to close early, so that would have to wait until the next day.

Ending the Day on a High Note

Progress was slow but steady.

We ended the day with a nice dinner with Shannon. Bobby wasn’t feeling all that great, but the tilapia we had was absolutely delicious.
