November 23rd – Finally Reaching the Beach
Good day. November 23rd. I wasn’t happy about not having been to the beach yet where I’m staying. I can see it, but I hadn’t actually gone there.
I decided to take a walk and use another entry to the beach, which turned out to be Sherry Beach. It’s basically a family-oriented place where, after a short walk and crossing some water, you arrive at an area with places to sit, palm trees, drinks, and a great view of the water. It was very quiet there, especially for a Sunday.
Walking Past the Chinese Embassy Area
I really enjoyed that walk. Along the way, I passed a large compound—a fully walled area—which turned out to be the residence of the Chinese ambassador. A little further down, I came across the Chinese embassy, which obviously made perfect sense.
This also explained why there’s a Chinese restaurant nearby that I had already visited in the other direction. It’s a high-end place with separate rooms and round tables or other configurations for dinner.
An Unusual Restaurant Memory
When I went there once, a group of about six people arrived together. They weren’t Chinese; they were Liberians. They were accompanied by a helmeted guard wearing a life vest.
I never found out what the occasion was or what position the main person held, but what stood out was that the guard was invited to sit and have dinner with the group as well.
Slowing Down and Letting the Experience Happen
Staying in one place and being relaxed about it isn’t a loss at all. It’s actually been a very good experience, even though I’m still looking forward to getting out of here, since that wasn’t the original objective.
I’m also not into trying to visit every highlight of every country. That just doesn’t work for me. I’m basically passing through and living whatever I happen to encounter—and that’s more than enough.
Pepper Fish Soup and Hotel Life
On the way back, I stopped at a bar restaurant. The music was a bit loud, but they made me a pepper fish soup that was definitely worth the wait. It was absolutely delicious.
There’s good food to be had here if you have patience and adapt to whatever the menu offers.
Wrapping Up the Day
Back at the hotel, there’s a swimming pool, and on this Sunday it was full of kids enjoying themselves. I’ve been getting to know the owner a little through occasional conversations. He’s a very nice person and also owns a hotel at the border and is working on another one in Ivory Coast.
Anyway, that’s it for today. Thanks for coming along. See you next time.
