Location: Toul, France → La Jonquera, Spain

September 27

Good day. September 27th. I woke up in that little neat hotel in Toul, France. Breakfast was included—somewhat basic, but it did the job. I was able to get my way out of town using my Garmin GPS navigation system. It’s a lot of fun because it gives directions, but if I don’t want to follow them, I can take a different route and it switches around seamlessly.

Heading South

The plan is to keep moving since I have only two weeks to get to Mauritania. It’s more efficient to stick with toll roads, and although we paid about €100 to go through France, the time saved was worth it. My route from Nancy (already passed) took me through Dijon, Lyon, and then in the direction of Marseille.

Long Drive to La Jonquera

I kept going until it was somewhat late and finally reached La Jonquera, a small town just inside Spain. I found a little hotel called La Rera, which had a restaurant, though it wasn’t serving anything at the time. That was fine, as there was a nearby supermarket. The day ended up being one of the longest so far in terms of distance traveled—about 863 km. Not something I want to make a habit, but first things first.

About La Jonquera

The town is very mountainous, right after the border, which makes it less ideal for sightseeing given my schedule. However, it has plenty of commercial services, campsites, and other essentials, making it a practical stop for the night.

Looking Ahead

It was a long but productive day on the road. Thanks for coming along, and I’ll share more tomorrow as the journey continues.
