Whale Shark Trip Cancelled Due to High Tides

Good day on this March 31st. I had been hoping that the boat trip would happen again so I could take some pictures from a different vantage point, but that apparently did not happen. High tides were coming up, the moon had something to do with it, and rain clouds were rolling in. The owners decided they could not do another whale shark trip on this 31st of March. So that plan sort of fell in the water, so to speak.

Meeting Anouk at the Brunching Whale

I ended up at the Brunching Whale, a little coffee place, where I found Anouk, who is from Switzerland and also stays at the same place I do. She has taken 6 days off from what she is really doing, which is bicycling. Anouk traveled through Morocco for one month by the coast and ended up in Marrakesh, then decided she needed to fly to Nairobi in Kenya. She did so with her bicycle, then started bicycling from there through Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Malawi, and now Mozambique. She’s obviously been on the road for some time and intends to make it all the way to Cape Town. She’s a very determined person and much fun to be around.

Running Into Jorge and Making Dinner Plans

While at the café, we ran into Jorge and his girlfriend. Jorge is from Spain, his girlfriend is from France, but they really live in Portugal. That’s just how things happen! We ended up making plans for that evening to have dinner together and share some more stories. The extra whale shark trip never materialized, so we could just hang out in town.

A Memorable Evening in Tofo

When the evening came, we had made arrangements to go to a certain place where there was live music, but apparently so had everybody else. It seemed like there was also a wedding party there, so the place was filled up to the top.

Then we found out that Heidi, who I had met before, was Jorge and his girlfriend’s landlord. They had rented a place from her for two weeks, so they knew Heidi when she came up in conversation. They also knew where Heidi’s restaurant was. We made our way there and found very few people but good ambience and lots of room, even though there was no live music. That’s where we had dinner, and it was a very enjoyable time. Eventually even Heidi showed up, so we had some more great conversation.

Why You Should Visit Tofo, Mozambique

If you are in Mozambique, Tofo is definitely a place to go to. It is a really exciting place with a very good atmosphere. Heidi is originally from Germany, has lived in the US, and has already been in Tofo for 20 years. You might call it a bit of a hippie town, but it has a very good ambience to it. So we’ll see you in Tofo — thanks for coming along!
