Location: Notter, Netherlands
Date: Wednesday, September 17, 2025
Day reporting on September 17, Wednesday 2025 as it happened when yesterday I went to pick up all the tools required. I also stopped by Waypoint in a place called Notter. Notter is close to Amlodipine as I was wanting to purchase a navigation system. The navigation system that runs on GPS and supposedly would be helpful to find places to stay, places with fuel etc. in far away places.
The Search for a Navigation System
When I went by there yesterday, it turned out they did not have any personnel. On Mondays they were open, but they wouldn’t be able to sell me anything with any service at all. So that wasn’t working. Hence today I went back there on this Wednesday and found a very helpful person who enlightened me with many details about the Garmin Tread 2 Overland — the 8-inch model that I’ll be trying to use on the way.
The Garmin Tread 2 Overland
This unit has one key significance: it’s better suited for handling storms and dust, being more weather-tight than most. I decided not to use the option tied to the satellite service, which requires a monthly fee — trying to avoid those. Still, it was an enjoyable part of the journey and a learning experience.
From Maps to Machines
I’m in a way not so much looking forward to all these electronics. Prior, it all worked just fine with a map. But these days we need to stay in touch more and be able to share what’s going on, so that’s a good thing. It’s just a different kind of travel now.
A Change in Plans
After visiting Notter, as the events turned, I did not need to go to my hometown yet in Nautwijk. Things changed around, so I was able to arrange for staying in the Wolskau, which is a group accommodation near Ootmarsum, courtesy of my nephew Marcel. They had me over for dinner and it was enjoyable as always.
Evening Reflections
I ended up staying in a cabin as opposed to the car, which is always a welcome thing. Not that I don’t enjoy sleeping in the car, but it’s just a little bit more roomy to stay in a regular place. That’s it for today. Thank you for coming along and see you the next time.
