Safari Camp Morning
G’day! March 6th. So we’re waking up at the safari camp. That’s a very doable thing. They also served a delicious breakfast, which I had the early breakfast since Ron and Chris did the morning safari part. And that was all very delicious and very worthwhile. So then we drove out the camp and saw some more antelope-type animals on the way out. So that was a very worthwhile experience, the whole thing.
Ostrich Show Farm Visit
So then it was on the road and we ended up in Barrydale, but before we got there, we stopped by a Ostrich Show Farm. So apparently the farms need to be in certain areas for the ostriches to thrive. But a lot of those farms, they have thousands of ostriches, and they’re obviously trying to expand export of the meat. And they also preserve the skins and make a lot of things of that, bags. And obviously you can buy stuff like that at those farms. But it was very worthwhile. The ostriches really come from many different parts of Africa, and they may have originated in Asia, I think. Anyway, it’s just all fascinating times. It was a little warm today, but that doesn’t seem to bother me a whole lot.
Arriving in Barrydale
When it came to Barrydale, of course, with the beautiful roads to get there, we had a few places that were fully booked or way over the price that we were willing to pay. So we ended up at a place called Doorways, which was set back on a long driveway which I ended up reversing at one or two times. And the situation was a little bit tight. That’s where we ended up in the end because that was a more affordable and workable situation. The owner’s husband, we met him in the morning. He turned out to be a retired physician who at some point served 3 years as a medical practitioner in Doha, Qatar. So that made for interesting conversations.
Evening Dining Experience
Very well, and it really all worked out. We ended up going to eat in a place where they made tapas and the like. So small portions, and small portions work really well. But the owners recommended that place since it was the only place in town that really wasn’t doing the burgers and the chips and the fish and chips and whatever. So we really enjoyed that one. Thank you for being with us.
