Farewell to Port Alfred

Port Alfred turned out to be such a really nice town, so I took another little gander through it. Nice views, nice access to the beach. I can see why the people at the Panorama where I stayed really intend to keep living in that town, even though they want to stop the bed and breakfast business — everything makes sense for them. That was pretty neat.

Highway 72 to East London

It was back onto Highway 72 — I had gone from 101 to 102 to 72 and kept following that. It seemed like slow going today, but I made it to East London. Once there, I spent a fair bit of time finding a place to stay because every place I checked was filled up. Some of that you can see online on Google Maps, which lets you know there’s no need to go there because it’s full. The ones I did try in person were also filled up.

Finding Accommodation at Clear Corner

Eventually I made it to Clear Corner, still in town. I was about to leave town and go to another place, but I’m going inland from here to avoid certain roads and maybe take in some more mountains, eventually making it to Lesotho. It’s a good thing I got to stay here because tomorrow’s destination makes sense for the driving time — about 3 to 4 hours, which is my comfortable pace and gives me time to stop once in a while. Going in that direction means fewer places to stop for services of any kind, so one has to keep that in mind.

Self-Catering and Settling In

Clear Corner is a nice house where I can park behind the fence, so that all works out. Since I arrived early, I was able to go to the grocery store and pick up some food to warm up at my accommodation. That way I don’t have to eat out all the time. I also got breakfast supplies since it’s a self-catering place. Everything is working out well.

Unexpected Evening Rain

Tonight in the evening, it started raining, which is very unusual for this time of year, along with a bit of stormy weather. So everything is in a bit of a different place right now.

Beautiful Scenery Along the Way

The scenery today was beautiful once again. It’s mostly rolling green hills and a lot of cows — that’s pretty much it. But then close to the ocean, much of the coastline isn’t really accessible unless you walk along the beach. The rivers that flow into the ocean require crossing bridges, and those crossings make for really good scenery.

Let’s see what tomorrow will bring. See you tomorrow.
