Coffee-break

September 13, 2025

Good day. This is for September 13, 2025. I am still in Opende or leaving this morning and did not mention yet that Gerard van Daalen, my friend from way back when, as in kindergarten, elementary school, high school and then in the army time in Suriname, came to visit and oversee what we were doing. I guess he was okay with how it came about.

Leaving Opende

Today is a Saturday. I am leaving for Groningen first and going to visit Gert-Jan my nephew, my oldest nephew, who has been very much instrumental in making this journey happen. We were able to spend some time finding out where to get the additional equipment that would be helpful. It’s all equipment that I should not really need. Then you say, well, why get it? Well, because if you need it and you don’t have it, it would not be a good idea. It could be very detrimental.

Preparing for the Road

We were able to sit at the computer and figure things out, and it turns out that most of those things were available in that part of the Netherlands where I was at that time. Then I got invited for dinner. It was always good times with wife Nienke — great fun.

Arriving in Dwingeloo

Thereafter I made my way to Dwingeloo, which is a neat little town. Dwingeloo has a campsite nearby which is called Stay in Lhee — a very catchy name. It’s a very basic campsite; you would not go there to have a lot of privacy because the spots are very set. But it’s a great place to spend the night and has really good equipment. So that’s where I ended up.

Reflections on Minimalism

It was good for being able to sort out a lot of things since that’s what I’m doing — trying to have everything have its place and not carry more things than I should really have. As it happens, it’s a small vehicle and there isn’t really enough room to take everything. So you have to make choices. And I can assure you for me that is not an easy task when it comes down to things to choose from.

Anyway, thanks for being along, and we’ll catch more of it tomorrow.
