Monday, December 1st
Good day. Monday, December 1st. Failed to mention from last night is that I ended up checking out some really good food places and could easily pass up on them because they were out of the price range that I am opting to go for, and I wasn’t really all that hungry.
Street Food Wins
When I found someone cooking sausages right on the street for 1,000 CFA — which is less than two dollars — that was all I needed.
Visa Progress (or Lack Thereof)
On this Monday, I was hoping to get the visa for Togo so I could make progress toward applying for the visa for Ghana. I was able to fill in a lot of the information, but the visa for Togo did not arrive on this Monday, even though it was somewhat indicated that it should.
Ghana Visa Requirements
Another requirement for the Ghana visa was uploading a bunch of documents, including a hotel reservation and a copy of my passport. The catch was that none of the files could be more than one megabyte.
File Compression Frustrations
A lot of the files were larger than that, so I had to investigate how to make them smaller — which meant compression or converting them to different formats. These are not things I was looking forward to figuring out, as they’re definitely not my strong suit.
A Different World
It takes me a lot of time to get these things figured out. Are we going to call that progress? I can tell you this much: it was a lot easier 52 years ago to go through the Sahara Desert without worrying about anything electronic or calling home for that matter.
It’s a completely different world now. Everyone can be on the same page, and you can call from almost anywhere most of the time.
Slow Steps Forward
It took me a lot of hours just to get a little further, without being able to make enough progress since the Togo visa hadn’t arrived. You have to submit that before you can even make an appointment.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for easy places to go, you can probably take Ghana off your list. I’m still hoping to make it happen and will do my best to make that happen sooner rather than later.
Thanks for being along, and we’ll see you tomorrow.
