Journey to Aus via Duwissip Castle
Good day, February 24th. However, I need to add a few more things on the day that we made it to Aus. We ended up taking the route that took us by Duwissip Castle. It’s an old structure and there’s some other things close to it, like a place you can stay, but it is manned by a older couple who are very dedicated, but they really are in the middle of nowhere.
Helping a Stranded Couple
Just before we got to the castle, which we did not go and see the inside of, there was a small Nissan car, older Nissan car, that was stuck on the road with a couple where the lady was the driver and the husband was in the passenger seat, but he could not walk. He couldn’t even get out of the car by himself, and they were stuck on the road in a low part where the river would flow if it were to go. So they were not too happy about being in that spot.
So we were able to just help them very little because we didn’t know how to fix the car necessarily. So we pulled them from there and just a few kilometers up the road, close to the entry to the castle. And then we went to the castle and found the people involved and let them know about the couple in the car. And they apparently knew that couple, so they were gonna take care of all that.
Stop in Berseba
Then we kept going towards Aus and stopped in a place called Berseba, which only holds about 50 people and does not allow any children to live there. They just can visit. But there is a great place where you can have a coffee and some cake and do whatever. So that was a great stop.
On to Grünau – Our Last Stop in Namibia
Now we’re on our way to Grünau, and Grünau is our last stop in Namibia. The desert just keeps on floating around and is endless. And a place like Grünau, you don’t really see it until you get really, really close. We had no idea what we were going to find as far as a place to stay. But we appreciate finding a place to stay, even though we always have a backup plan. We can camp, we can put up a tent, we can sleep in the car, whatever it takes.
Gruneau Chalets and Meeting the Owner’s Son
So in this case, we find the Gruneau Chalets, and the Gruneau Chalets was next to a gas station, a 24-hour gas station. And we ran into the son of the owner. The owner is a lady, and it’s well run. It has good food, a great place to hang out.
And the son was telling us that he lives in Kapstadt, but he’s now waiting for a visa to start working in the US. The US, United States, has a good arrangement for people from South Africa that want to come to the US. That’s an exception on many other countries where they’re trying to stop people from coming. But we had some good conversations about all that. He wants to become a— he is already a pilot for small airplanes, and he might try to get to bigger airplanes. He just is finding a job that works for him just to get to the US once he gets his visa. Anyway, that turned out to be all very, very fascinating. More about all this tomorrow.
