A Relaxed Start to the Day
Today, April 13th, was a Monday. I took it easy for most of the day before making my way to the conference center. My goal was to interview Dr. Seke Kayuni together with Julie Jacobson from Britain, who works with BridgesToDevelopment.org, regarding WHO’s designated 21 neglected tropical diseases.
The Interview at the Conference Center
Getting to the conference center was easy — it’s not far from where I’m staying. Even though the conference ran an hour longer that day, we had communicated about the schedule change. In due time, we became a group of three, as Stella Kepa from Kenya, who has known Julie for a long time, joined us. We went back to the conference hall and found a relatively quiet place to sit down for the interview.
I was able to record the interview two ways — with my iPhone and with the pro camera. Hopefully the footage will turn out well, though it will take a while to process. It was very nice meeting both people who are active in their field.
Everyone Goes Their Separate Ways
After the interview, everyone had things to do. Dr. Seke lives in the Longwe area, so he headed home. Julie has a big task ahead of her — she wants to interview as many people as possible while at the conference. With the whole conference being only 4 days and day 1 already over, she needed to get started right away.
Dinner at Kitini Hub Restaurant
I ended up getting a bite to eat at the Kitini Hub restaurant, which was across the street from the hotel. It was a nice place, though not many people were there. Being a Monday night, it was surprising they were even open. I also had a cappuccino there — I enjoy having a cappuccino or an espresso before going to sleep. That may not work for most people, but it works for me most of the time.
Wrapping Up the Day
All in all, it was a splendid day in a beautiful environment. I had a lot of fun and tried not to get back to the hotel too late. Driving in the dark is always a bit of a challenge since it’s more dangerous. Thank you for coming along — see you tomorrow!
