Location
Lhee & Dwingeloo, Netherlands
Summary
Good day for September 16th. It’s a Tuesday and I got a chance to get back to Grootegast to JWG Campers and finally get to put in the chair.
Morning — Leaving Lhee
Made my way from the stay in Lhee near Dwingeloo at an early time to be able to be in Grootegast about close to a quarter to nine, something like that, and was able to get on the car lift again and work on the chair.
Chair Installation

Now the chair, of course, had to have some tracks cut out and then they had to be bolted to the floor of the Land Cruiser. And that meant lifting the vehicle and needing someone else to get it installed. Wiebe, as before, was amazingly helpful to get all that done. The Renault Embrace chair has its quirks, but he was able to get things moving the way they were supposed to. So I made the holes and we got the chair in, which seemed like a major accomplishment. We had to adjust the storage space and have now a little less of it, but I think we’ll manage.
Finishing Up
After doing a little bit of overtime and having to put everything back in a hurry, that was mission accomplished. It was time to go back to stay in Leh, but decided that a visit to Dwingeloo to have a nice dinner as celebrating the accomplishment was in order.
Dinner & A Chance Encounter
Thereby, I was fortunate enough to run into a person named Gerard from Susteren, and that ended up being an amazing meeting in my books. Apparently Gerard was the one that at about 40, in about 2003, bicycled from the Netherlands first to Senegal and then on to Upper Volta. At that time, that was more doable than it would be at this time. I don’t think you want to go to Upper Volta or Niger or any of these places in the center with the influences that are happening there. It’s probably not as safe as it was at that time. But he shared a lot of his stories from that time and expressed that there was no reason to worry about anything. He felt safe while being by himself and on the road on a bicycle.
Reflections
So that turned out to be an absolutely amazing evening. It is those encounters that make traveling lots of fun, that really makes traveling.
Outro
Thank you for taking part in this and catch you next time.
