Moving Day and Beach Preparations
Good day, February 28th. So today is, uh, Gert-Jan’s last full day to be with the crew, and so we want to make the best of it. However, the, the, this low-hanging clouds, so Table Mountain is probably not going to be part of that.
So we, uh, we first needed to move because the place we were renting had been already rented to someone else. And that worked out really well because we found a house a block away and that had an additional bed, which was very helpful with the changeover for, uh, Rajan leaving and nephews Ron and Chris flying in. And that’s going to happen tomorrow.
We moved first. We could already move in in the early part of the day. No one else to worry about. We had, yeah, a nice place for the occasion. And just about a block away from the beach. Can’t go wrong. It’s easy to find the beach in this part of the world. But they’re not always as useful as one would like. A lot of times there’s rocks, so swimming isn’t necessarily much of an option. But Gert-Jan did make use of the ocean a few times. He likes swimming whether it’s cold or not.
Exploring Cape Town
Anyway, so we got that sorted out, then toured around Magbos Strand a little bit more to get the lay of the land, and then headed down to Cape Town. And that of course was for Gert-Jan pretty much the first time, because he had landed there but then had flown away right away to meet me in Windhoek. So that was all new, and it was a shame it wasn’t as clear, so you could not see Table Mountain as well. It certainly didn’t make sense, did not make sense to go up the mountain and, and, and not see that much. So we saved that one.
Cape Town Waterfront and Scenic Drive
So we did that, and then we of course have our coffee in between and what have you. Then we started driving around a little bit and made it in between Table Mountain and Lion’s Head to go a little bit further south. And then you go around and come along the waterfront. And eventually you’ll go around Signal Hill as well. Very dominant places. The waterfront there reminds me a little bit of Alki Beach in Seattle. Just a lot of people hanging out there and places to go to, places to eat and things to do. It worked out really well.
Reflecting on Two Weeks of Adventure
So that was a— made for a beautiful day for Gedeon, despite it being cloudy and everything. And we ended up eating at the same place again in Malmö Strand. When you have a good place, then no need to change it. And a lot of reminiscing, I guess, about what we have been able to accomplish for the last 2 weeks. So many things that we did see, many deserts, many rougher roads. And it’s been amazing to have had Jan along and share all that. It is every way you travel with 1, 2, 3, or 20 people has its unique ways. And they’re all absolutely perfect. Well, hope you get to do your travel. Thanks for being along.
