Trip Update - 9 September 2025

Transcript:

Good day.

Andre here.

We’re about 30 hours before departure time from Vashon Island, where I actually live.

It’s been a year and a half preparing for this moment.

And organized chaos fits the bill.

It is really a very fascinating time, and in some ways, it seems unreal what I’m going to be doing. But I’m looking forward to it big time!

To give you an idea of what will happen on this journey: I’m going to be making my way to Reykjavík, Iceland tomorrow night.

Stay there just a few days and hope to visit the Blue Lagoon — a good place to cool off or warm up, depending on how you look at it.

After that, we’re going to be heading to Amsterdam and, by way of Zwolle, making my way to Groningen to pick up the Land Cruiser. At that time, it’ll be time to fit the last chair in — an extra chair — and do that in Grootegast.

Together with a hole in the roof for fresh air, it’ll be fascinating to do all that.

Then making my way to Westland, where I’m from, and on September 22nd, after a reunion for the Suriname time on September 20th, making my way to Oud-Beijerland to get export plates.

Then it is heading south towards Morocco — not taking the coastal route this time, choosing to go through Antwerp, and by way of Ghent, Belgium, trying to circumnavigate Paris (which is not an easy thing), heading for Toulouse, and then straight to Valencia, Spain.

That is a relatively direct route, and I may deviate a little bit from that.

After Valencia, it’s time to visit some acquaintances from Seattle.

Then make my way to Alicante to pick up my companion for the first month, Johann, and hopefully we’ll make it to Morocco by the end of next week.

I only have two weeks to make it all the way to Mauritania. That’s probably going to be the fastest part of the trip.

Hopefully we’ll be able to take more time for everything thereafter.

But you’ve got to start somewhere…

It has to do with a two-week period that you can drive on export license plates through Europe and Morocco and be legal.

After that, the import to the next country is to be determined. We’ll find out how all that works. A lot of investigation and thinking about all this brings us to where we are now.

Thank you all for attending and I hope to keep you up to date on this journey.

Thanks for coming along.

Signing off.
