Morning at Kate’s Nest Guest House

Good day, February 8th. All right, woke up again at Kate’s Nest Guest House. Still good times there. So then it was time to pick up Nico at his guest house. Since he didn’t have any wheels, easy go pick him up.

Adventure at Dan Viljoen’s Game Reserve

And so we drove to Dan Viljoen’s Game Reserve. That’s only about 25 kilometers out of town. As it so happened, it was a day, one of the very few days in the year, that their day services were closed, which wasn’t very helpful, but we could do the tour anyway. The tour meant you get through the gate, you pay your fee, and you get to do a certain track to get to a lodge/restaurant.

And along that track, which you could do with a regular car most of the time, and there was a few other people doing that, you could see birds, zebras, giraffes, and a few other animals. So it was definitely worthwhile. Very, very, very, very fun. Nice day to do that. And then we took a walk on top of the ridge there. There’s a water reservoir and another restaurant. They somehow make good use of what they have in Namibia.

Coffee Hunt and Seattle Coffee Company Discovery

Like I say, too bad that the day services were out today, but such, such is life. So then we opted to go back to town and find some, uh, well, find some coffee actually. So we— I already had been to, uh, two, uh, super malls or malls where they had Seattle Coffee Company.

Apparently Seattle Coffee Company, uh, was, um, organized by a South African who bought the rights from the couple that had the Seattle Coffee Company in England. And the same couple had MOD Pizza in the United States. MOD Pizza is a place where they employ people that are less, uh, less healthy or have handicaps but are still able to work. And so that’s, that’s a really Nice concept. And the Seattle Coffee Company in Namibia is doing really, really good work. So they have 7 in Windhoek and they have an 8th one on the coast.

Drive Through Windhoek Township

So then we, uh, were able to find that, uh, after we drove through what you could call a township. A township in this case is next to, uh, Windhoek. Where you find a lot of corrugated metal roofs and walls and really dilapidated homes. And you wouldn’t want to necessarily drive through there in the evening, but during the day was, uh, was okay. And the moment you get off the main road, it’s all dirt road anyway. But we were lucky that it wasn’t raining or anything, so that was all pretty smooth sailing and interesting on how some of those people live.

End of a Great Day

It was really great fun to be out with Nico that day, and we parted ways at the mall since he needed to do some shopping and was walking distance to the place where I was, where he was staying. So I made it back in good time and ready for tomorrow, which is a Monday. Thanks for coming along.
