Dolphin Hunt in Hermanas

Good day, March 3rd. There was word that there were dolphins in the harbor of Hermanas, and Hermanas is the next town on the water, so we obviously went that way. But nobody told the dolphins to stay around till we had been there, so we missed out on that part.

Coastal Town Exploration

Driving through these towns with all their touristy attractions, beaches and everything, was a good environment. South Africa has so many of those wonderful places. And then there are the townships – a whole different world, all in one country of about 65 million people altogether.

Sandy Roads to Kleinbaij

We ended up going to Kleinbaij and we did some coastal driving which did not require four-wheel drive but was a sandy, sandy road. That at least gave you a feeling you were in the middle of nowhere, so to speak. Then we had a bite in Bredasdorp and that was worthwhile.

Finding Accommodation in Wilderness

We opted to get to Wilderness and basically ventured on where we were going to stay. With having 2 additional people looking for things, looking for a place, that makes a difference. Also 2 people that take pictures, so I don’t have to stop as many times. I end up with fewer pictures, but then they can share the pictures.

Ron and Chris do the honors as far as arranging places to stay. They generally go out because we had not made reservations. They went out and approached the people to find out if there was a place.

Meeting Our Hosts

This time was an elderly couple that we found out more the next day had actually built the place across the street that had 7 rooms or something, 7 apartments. They just sold it a year and a half ago because it was getting too much work. So now they had their place, not on the water but just across the street, with 5 bedrooms that they could rent out and a studio for the lady to do her art.

The husband was a retired attorney. He did commercial real estate attorney work further north in Orange State when it was Orange State. Now it is Free State. Very nice people, and everything was taken care of in good shape.

Southern Point Discovery

As it turns out, on the way, I think we definitely were further south than Cape Good Hope that we could have gone to. So in a way, the guys did get to a more southern point in South Africa, because the Cape of Good Hope is the western furthest south point, but not the furthest south.

Evening in Wilderness

We found a place to go for dinner and we could walk there. A little tricky if you did not have directions, but we managed. Had a great dinner and made it an early night and going to be ready for tomorrow. So this place is called Wilderness. Thanks for coming along.
