Make It Count Day in Cape Town
Good day. It’s March 8th. This is the Make It Count day. So we narrowed things down to all one room because we would use my room for the rest of the day because the guys are departing this evening. So they had figured out a nice program.
Cheetah Outreach Experience
We had tried actually yesterday to stop by a place that has the cheetahs. But, even though it was a day that they were supposed to be open, since no one had made a reservation including us, they would not open for us. So we found another place that’s called Cheetah Outreach, and they have hand-raised Cheetahs, as well as a bunch of other animals, which you’ll see some of them in the pictures.
That turned out to be a really good experience, and we could just go there at any old time during their opening hours, which I think is 7 days a week. But they encourage special appointments because then you can pay more but also can do more and get very close to some of the cheetahs as well as the other animals. What’s interesting is that this is not a really big place, and it is located at the Heartlands Pardonfly property. And that is basically a place with private homes, a closed community, but that obviously is there to stay.
So it was really, really nice to go there. And it was especially nice to see a lot of other animals close up that you wouldn’t normally have a chance to see or even know that they are around. So we spent some time there and we ran into one person that was with a group that came from Seattle. And he was a motorbike rider on other occasions, but I don’t think on this one. I didn’t get a name. It’s fun when you meet people that are living near where you are.
Wine Tasting at Lawrenceford Estate
So then the next stop was wine tasting at the Lawrenceford Estate. Again, Ron and Chris figured all that stuff out. This was in Somerset West, and it is really more than a winery place. It is humongous. You can spend a whole day there. So with the wine tasting and the really big facility where they store the wine and do whatever they need to do with it, there’s also a museum, there’s a restaurant, and that is a car museum, car and motorbikes.
There’s a restaurant, there is a coffee roastery, an art gallery, an outdoor market where they also serve a lot of different foods, and the restaurant is a very high-end restaurant. They organize music concerts. If we would have known it the night before, we could have gone there. There’s also trails. They do bicycle races, and they have absolutely amazing beautiful gardens. Needless to say, the place was somewhat busy. But that was okay. It’s just part of the ambiance.
Airport Departure and Reflections
So then it was time to go for dinner, which we did. And then it was time to really make hay and get to the airport for Ron and Chris to go on the return trip. That’s a matter of dropping them off. The Cape Town airport is very simple and straightforward, and that made life easy. So then the place we were staying – so that, you know, I guess they came out just fine and found out the next morning they arrived safe and sound.
So that made for a grand time, a grand time. We’ve had Jan at first for 2 weeks, and now we have Ron and Chris. I applaud them both, or all 3, for making it out so far away and spend the time with me. That was so much appreciated.
Return to Sommer Place
So the place where we stayed is called Sommer Place, where I stay now. And so I had punched that in. It turned out to be – there was no other place like it. So when I came back from the airport, I first ended up going a different direction, and then of course it was dark, but I got to see big parts of Cape Town at night, all the lights. So that worked out very well. So made it back safe and sound, and now I just have to recoup from having company for 3 weeks. And make my way and carry on. Thank you also for coming along.
