Leaving the Hidden Gem
Good day, March 10th, 2026. So I’m leaving the Hidden Gem because they are filled up for the coming night. And so I’m going to be looking in the neighborhood to find a new place to stay because I want to stay around for tomorrow, actually for the 11th.
Finding the Marigold Airbnb
Yes, so I found the Marigold Airbnb. It’s what you call a self-catering place at about 1,100 rand, which for what they offer is very reasonable. It is an amazing, amazing place behind an apartment behind a house, and the owners live in the house, but the house or the apartment has a swimming pool that you can use.
Modern Conveniences and Smart Features
And as well as all the modern, uh, conveniences that one could ask for, as well as electronic gadgets such that you can ask Google to turn on the light and all that good stuff. The owner is apparently an IT person, and he just basically got into this. He did put down not natural grass so he doesn’t have to mow ever. He’s put it all very low maintenance. And very nice people, Agata and Emmanuel.
Lucky Timing and Internet Connection
So I lucked out on that because somebody had not shown up for the night before, so I could go there really early. And that was the goal. Also, having a good internet connection helps things along.
Reflecting on Travel Then and Now
Which brings up that, of course, when I traveled through Africa before, like 45 years ago, there was no internet. And I can assure you that that was a lot less complicated than what life is like now. But there’s also a lot of good things about the electronics. So we’ll leave it at that.
Catching Up and Lovers Market
So then, um, I basically focused on catching up on the things that I need to be in one place for with a good internet connection. And I went to the Lovers Market, which is basically a really good grocery store that is really going out of their way I mean, even more developed than in the US at most of the, most of the stores. So that’s easy to grab some food that’s already cooked or easy to heat up, and then I can stay at the place and, and finish off what I, what I need to do this time in preparation for tomorrow.
